Presented by the ANU Film Club in partnership with Immersia, this special event features an in-conversation session with writer-director Abhijit Deonath, followed by a screening of his acclaimed film Salt Bridge.
When Indian migrant Basant relocates his wife and young son to a small Australian town, he hopes to build a peaceful new life. However, tensions emerge within the local diaspora community when he forms an unexpected friendship with an Australian woman. As gossip and social pressures mount, Basant's refusal to conform challenges those around him to confront their own assumptions about culture, identity and belonging.
Recognised as Australia's first Hindi-language feature film, Salt Bridge is a thoughtful and moving cross-cultural drama that explores migration, community and the complexities of life between cultures. Filmed across Canberra and regional New South Wales, the film offers a distinctly Australian perspective on belonging and connection.
Following the conversation with Deonath, audiences will have the opportunity to experience this nuanced story on the big screen.
