La Mama Hope Punk Climate Festival

Embracing hope as a verb and punk as a culture, the La Mama Hope Punk Climate Festival is a platform that empowers independent artists to contribute to the national climate conversation through art.

The festival centres on nine feature shows, while inviting conversation and learning through fresh one-off events such as new play readings and scratch. There's also plenty of free events and activations, including a huge opening night party, the La Mama Emerge final outcome, site-responsive Hopetica Garden Party, La Mama Cabaretica/Poetica, panels, and activations in La Mama HQ's forecourt. Start times are staggered so that festival goers may attend several events in a day, while enjoying La Mama's famous hospitality between shows.

La Mama, Australia's most iconic intimate theatre, was founded in 1967 by Betty Burstall returning from the coffee-house theatre scene in New York City. Nowadays the coffee and biscuits are still free, you can still chat with the artists after the show, and the famous La Mama raffle still thrills. You simply cannot leave Melbourne without having seen a show at its beloved La Mama Theatre.
