Workshop: Comedy with ATYP

In collaboration with The Australian Theatre for Young People, SUDS is very excited to welcome guest teaching artist Ruby Blinkhorn who is ready to give you the practical skills you need for acting comedy on stage. Explore the importance of rhythm and timing through exercises in comic timing and the creating of comedic character. RSVP now to participate in this workshop! Limited spots available.

About the company:

ATYP is Australia’s flagship youth theatre company, championing young voices through productions, training and creative programs across the country, empowering young people to shape the future of Australian storytelling. Their goal is to give young Australians the tools and confidence to enrich the nation’s cultural life with their own voices and ideas. Their work strengthens confidence, creativity and community — using theatre as a powerful tool for self-expression, wellbeing and social connection.

About the creative:

Ruby is a writer and comedian working on Gadigal and Bidjigal land in Sydney. She is an experienced playwright with a background in theatre, sketch comedy and improvisation. Ruby tells stories that navigate life’s bitterest moments with tender optimism, moving audiences between side-splitting laughter and tears. She was selected as a participant in the 2024 ATYP National Studio at Bundanon Trust, and her short screenplay SPLASH, developed through her NIDA Masters of Dramatic Writing, was longlisted for the 2024 Martin-Lysicrates Prize. In 2022, she was awarded the Inner West Council EDGE Residency, and her writing piece ‘My nan loves raffles and carrot cake, and also has dementia’ was published in the SBS Voices Publication. She has written and directed shows performed at Sydney Fringe Festival, Sydney Comedy Festival, PACT Theatre, The Seymour Centre and Improv Theatre Sydney.
