Enjoy the best of the Sydney Writers’ Festival without travelling to the city! Bowral Library is hosting a series of official festival talk playbacks over four weeks, featuring some of the festival’s standout sessions.

About the playback:

Winner of the 2022 International Booker Prize and of the Warwick Prize for Women in Translation, for her novel, “Tomb of Sand (Ret Samadhi)”. The novel was shortlisted for the Emile Guimet Prize. She is also the winner of the 2025 Luna Virino International award for women achievers.

Geetanjali Shree is known for her innovative use of language and structure. She has written five other novels, “Mai (Mai: Silently Mother)”, “Hamara Shahar Us Baras (Our City That Year)”, “Tirohit (The Roof Beneath Their Feet)”, ”Khali Jagah (Empty Space)” and “Sah-sa, (All At Once)” and five collections of short stories.

She writes essays and gives talks in both Hindi and English. Her work is translated into many Indian and foreign languages. Geetanjali also works on theatre scripts in collaboration with a Delhi based group, Vivadi, of which she is a founding member. She is frequently invited for residencies, fellowships, lectures, seminars and workshops across the world. This year she completed a DAAD writer-in-residence program in Berlin.
