CONTEMPORARY PERSPECTIVES ON GAME MUSIC
A Two-Day Online Conference: 16 & 23 August 2026, 4:30-7:30pm (ACST, Adelaide)
Over the past few decades game music has emerged as a vital area of contemporary composition, while ludomusicology (the study of game music) has become an established academic discipline. Australia is home to a growing community of internationally recognised game music composers, with tertiary institutions increasingly offering courses and opportunities in the field. Despite these developments there have been few Australian conferences dedicated to game music. This conference addresses that gap by bringing together composers, researchers, and educators to explore the innovation, diversity, and cultural significance of game music. Sponsored by the South Australian Chapter of the Musicological Society of Australia, the conference will include presentations from the following creatives and academics:
Angus Barnacle (U.K.), Tui Dougiamas (University of Western Australia), Joanna Drimatis (Australian Music Centre), ENHE (AKA Artemis Bishop, Adelaide, Australia), Robbie Hart (Orange, New South Wales, Australia), Bradley Kagan (University of Sydney), Christopher Larkin (Adelaide, Australia), Alex May (Stockholm, Sweden), Chris Norton (Adelaide, Australia), John Oestmann (Adelaide, Australia)
Meghann O'Neill (University of Sydney) with Sam Mudie (Australian Institute of Music, Sydney), Daniel Pitman (Adelaide University), Jarrod Salmon (Adelaide, Australia), Barnabas Smith (Adelaide, Australia)
The conference will be run online on Zoom. Those who are physically present in Adelaide, South Australia, will optionally be able to attend the conference in person at Tabor Institute of Music Adelaide.
Whether accessing via Zoom or in-person, there is no charge for this event.
The conference Zoom link and optional live location will be provided once you register for the event. The conference program, containing presentation titles, abstracts and presenter bios will be available closer to the time of the event.
To attend the full conference, please register for either date. The Zoom link and physical address that you will then receive can be used to attend both dates, either online or in-person.
