Weindorfer Festival

The Weindorfer Festival is an annual event held on the first Sunday of May each year. The festival celebrates the pioneers of Cradle Mountain and Tasmania's national parks.

The Weindorfer Festival is an annual event held on the first Sunday of May each year, set against the stunning natural backdrop of Mount Roland in Tasmania. The festival is a heartfelt tribute to Gustav and Kate Weindorfer, the visionary pioneers whose passion and advocacy were instrumental in the establishment of Cradle Mountain–Lake St Clair National Park and, more broadly, Tasmania's system of national parks and World Heritage areas.

This community-based event brings together nature lovers, historians, artists, conservationists, and visitors of all ages to celebrate the Weindorfers' enduring legacy. The festival features a rich program that may include guided walks, storytelling, live music, local food, and activities that highlight both the cultural heritage and ecological significance of the Cradle Mountain region.

Through its celebration of the past, the Weindorfer Festival also looks to the future—fostering a deeper appreciation for Tasmania's wild landscapes and the ongoing importance of conservation and community stewardship.

Also available is a guided bus tour to Cradle Valley to visit the forest home of Gustav and Kate "Walheim", take a stroll in the Weindorfer Forest, share a moments of reflection at Gustav and Kate's monument and have afternoon tea with us.
