Cairns Deadly Runner and Walkers Marathon Festival
The Cairns Deadly Runners and Walkers are partnering with the Thursday Island Deadly Runners and The Indigenous Marathon Foundation.
About this Event
The Cairns Deadly Runners and Walkers focus on improving mental and physical health across all ages and fitness levels and creates Indigenous role models – people of all abilities taking control of their fitness through supported physical activities.
Through the Cairns Deadly Runners and Walkers Marathon Festival, we want to focus on participation and the promotion of healthy living, celebrating Indigenous resilience and achievement of both physical and mental goals.
The correlation between physical and mental wellbeing is well-documented. People who work towards achieving physical goals address the many problems identified with Indigenous health issues, as well as building self-worth and resilience, and celebrating achievements. To do so in a social setting with family and friends is hugely beneficial and further enhances a sense of community and involvement. It is also the kind of natural ‘high’ that leads runners of all levels to strive to improve times, distance and overall fitness.
The event hopes to involve over 50 community members, runners, walkers and supporters, including a small group of runners travelling form Thursday Island to participate.
The event will involve a 5km, 10km, 21km and 42km distances, using the 10.5km esplanade loop (from Figtree playground to airport road return via Fogarty park) utilising all local bike paths to avoid any road crossings.
